:: Know the Centrino Platforms

Platforms Caramel
Release Product : March 2003
Mobile Chipset
Mobile Intel 855 Express Chipset series
(Odem coded or Montara with Intel Extreme Graphics 2),
DDR-266 or DDR-333, including ICH4M southbridge.
Mobile Processor :
Intel Pentium M processor (Banias coded or Dothan generation 1) with 400 MHz FSB using socket 478
Wireless Network :
Intel PRO / Wireless 2100B (Calexico coded) then becomes 2200BG mini-PCI Wi-Fi adapter (code Calexico2).
Caramel was able to reach or even exceed the performance of older predecessors of the Pentium 4-M platform, this product has also been possible for the laptop could operate for 4 to 5 hours at 48 Wh battery.
With the excess surplus that had been in Caramel is a laptop manufacturers can develop products that are thinner laptops, clear light and does not generate excessive heat as his predecessor.

Platforms Sonoma
 Release Product : January 2005
Mobile Chipset
Mobile Intel 915 Express Chipset series
(Alviso coded with Intel's GMA 900),
DDR2-533, including ICH6M southbridge.
Mobile Processor :
Intel Pentium M processor (Dothan-coded into the 2nd generation) with 533 MHz FSB, Socket 479.
Wireless Network :
Intel PRO / Wireless 2200BG or 2915ABG mini-PCI Wi-Fi adapter (Both Calexico2 coded).

Like the desktop version, Sonoma has supported many new features such as DDR2, PCI Express, Intel High Definition Audio, and SATA.
But very unfortunately, the introduction of PCI Express is faster cause shorter battery life than his brother Caramel, battery life reached between 3,5-4,6 hrs at 53 Wh battery.

Platforms Napa
 Release Product : January 2006
Mobile Chipset
Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset series
(Calistoga coded with Intel GMA 950), including the southbridge ICH7M.
RAM support for DDR2-533 and DDR2-667 SO-DIMM.
Mobile Processor :
Processors - Socket M / Micro-FCBGA
- Intel Core Solo, Core Duo (Yonah code) processor, or
- Intel Core 2 Duo (Merom code) processor, which has been using
667 Mhz FSB for Napa Refresh platform, or
- Intel Core 2 Solo (Merom code) that uses 553 MHz FSB
Napa Refresh platform (September 2007).
Wireless Network:
Intel PRO / Wireless 3945ABG Mini-PCIe Wi-Fi adapter (which were coded Golan).
Some models of the new (as of I quarter 2007) from the platform
Napa Refresh already contain a newer model 4965AGN (a / b / g / draft-n) wireless card.

Intel uses Centrino Duo for laptops branding with the dual-core Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processor.
Intel also retain the name Centrino for laptops that use a single core (Core Solo) processor. Some of the early production of Core Duo laptops, are still labeled as Intel Centrino Duo Centrino instead.

Santa Rosa Platforms
Release Product : May 2007
Mobile Chipset
Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset series
(Which were coded Crestline) GM965 with Intel's GMA X3100 graphics technology or PM965 with discrete graphics, and ICH8M southbridge, 800 MHz FSB
with Dynamic Front Side Bus Switching to save power the low usage.
- Intel Dynamic Acceleration (IDA), which is essentially to support the use of Windows Vista Aero is good.
- RAM is supported for DDR2-533 and DDR2-667 SO-DIMM.
Running DDR2-800 SO-DIMM at 667 MHz while the range Has 800 Mhz FSB support.
- EFI-compliant firmware, which replaces the BIOS.
- Optional NAND flash-memory caching called Intel Turbo Memory (Robson coded).
Mobile Processor :
Processors - Socket P / Socket M / Micro-FCBGA
- Intel Core 2 Duo (Merom code) generation 2 with 800 MHz FSB.
- Intel Core 2 Duo (Penryn code) 45 nm, 800 MHz FSB and SSE4.1,
and added 47 new instructions to SSSE3.
Scheduled for release in January 2008 for the Santa Rosa Refresh platform.
Wireless Network:
Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN (a / b / g / draft-n) mini-PCIe Wi-Fi adapter (Kedron coded).
- Support Wireless-N which can increase speeds up to 5X
2X coverage with a larger area, and supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signal bands, with sufficient bandwidth for high definition audio and video streams.

Dynamic acceleration technology that is used santa rosa platform allows execution of single threaded faster.
The point when a threaded application is running, the CPU can turn off one core and overclock the active core.

Montevina Platforms
Release Product : release date has been scheduled on June 3 to 7, 2008 at Computex Taipei

but delayed until officially released on 5 July 2008.
Mobile Chipset
Intel Mobile 4 Express series chipset
(Cantiga coded; GL40, GS45, GM45, PM45) with Intel's graphics technology GMA X4500 and ICH9M southbridge, FSB 1066 MHz (667 MHz FSB for GL40)
GM45/GS45 graphics core clockspeed of 533 MHz and 400 MHz for
GL40, which contains 10 unified shaders, up from the originally provided has 8 by GMA X3100.
Mobile Processor :
Processors - Socket P / Socket M / Micro-FCBGA Generation 2 from Intel Core 2 Duo
(Which were coded Penryn) 45nm with 800-1066 MHz FSB,
clockspeed ranging from 2 GHz to 3.06 GHz, also features support SSE4.1,
which has added 47 new instructions to the planned only SSSE3
power consuming no more than 29W, compared to Merom and the first-generation Penryn's 34W TDP.
But after it was released a few models such as (P series) have a 25W TDP and rest (T series) that still has a 35W TDP, in addition to the series Q (quad core) with TDP 45W.
Wireless Network :
Use of Wireless Modules
- Intel WiMAX / WiFi Link 5350 mini-PCIe (which were coded as Echo Peak-P)
which has been supported by both WiMAX up to 450Mbit / s Wi-Fi, or
- Intel ® Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 mini-PCIe adapter
(By Shirley Peak 3x3 code) to support up to 450Mbit / s, or
